A new text scam is called the Canada Carbon Rebate scam. The federal government has stated it is not sending texts! Rebates will be mailed or direct deposited automatically. Do not respond to texts and do not go to the website listed.
The OPP is still searching for Brian Lush (51) a missing man from Newfoundland who disappeared on April 24 near Summerstown, has ended.lush was found dead on Monday, May 6. Police said his truck was found at the Petro-Pass gas station on County Road 27 near Highway 401, with his belongings still inside. A massive search involving the OPP Emergency Response Team, Canine Units, drones, an OPP helicopter and members of a Search and Rescue Volunteer Association was conducted. Foul play is not suspected. The OPP said out of respect for the family no other details will be provided.
In South Glengarry the Holy Trinity Catholic School was locked down on Monday, May 6 when OPP were called to the school because of a man uttering threats. The 35-year-old Scarborough man was subdued with a taser and is in custody. He was charged with two counts of assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, mischief to destroy or damage property, possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose, causing a disturbance, and common nuisance to cause physical harm. No one was injured.
There is a public meeting on Wednesday, May 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Township Hall in Embrun regarding the Water and Wastewater Master Plan Update. Consultants will introduce the project, preliminary results of activities done to date, and get public and stakeholders’ feedback.
This week the Township of Russell Public Utilities operators will be flushing hydrants across the Township to make sure the system is working optimally. There may be coloured water and loss in water pressure during the testing of hydrants. The township said the water should not be drank, although it is not harmful to health, but may stain laundry. If water is coloured turn on a cold water tap for a few minutes until it runs clear.
The Vars Community Group picked up 25 bags of garbage in and near Vars, including Alcide Trudeau Park, on Clean the Capital Day, Saturday, May 4.

On Saturday, May 4, the Carlsbad Springs Optimists collected collected $3,755, $1245 short of its $5000 objective for CHEO. The club will present a cheque to the CHEO representative on May 26. Donations can still be made at cheofoundation.donordrive.com.
In Metcalfe Victoria Street will be closed on May 11 from Dow Street to 8th Line Road for Metcalfe’s annual Meet and Greet. This year event which runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will have over 50 vendors and organizations participating, the most since the event started several years ago.
